Wetland Restoration

Wetland restoration refers to re-establishing or rehabilitating a former or degraded wetland, with the primary goal being restoring its natural, historic wetland functions to a close approximation of the original. Given Wright County has lost more than 50% of its pre-settlement wetland areas, there are many restoration opportunities throughout the county. The Wright SWCD works in collaboration with the Board of Water and Soil Resources (BWSR), the Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS), and the US Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) to restore wetlands. There are various programs that provide funding to assist in these restorations. Wright SWCD staff can assist in identifying potential restoration opportunities, discuss program eligibility, or provide general information on wetland restorations.
